• In 2019, NourishNC launched its Food Farmacy Program with the recognition that "Food Is Medicine". Doctors and Nurses at the Nunnelee Pediatric Speciality Clinic and Coastal Family Medicine ask two additional questions during children's screenings. If a child identifies as food insecure, they leave their appointment with a box of pantry staples and also receive a "prescription" for fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, and bread! The boxes also contain a guide about additional food resources in their county.
  • Summer Break is no picnic for food-insecure children. Most children count down the days to vacation, but chronically hungry kids may anxiously count the numbers of meals they’ll miss when school is out. NourishNC fights Summer Hunger by providing the 1,300 children we serve with nutritious meals, milk, juice, healthy snacks, frozen proteins (turkey, chicken, etc), bread, eggs, and loads of fresh produce for their entire break! In addition, our children and families can now have the option to choose the foods that are right for them by shopping in our Market on Market. It costs NourishNC $250 to feed each of the 1,200+ kids on the Backpack Program. Your donation of any amount will help provide full bellies all Summer long for our community’s most vulnerable children.
  • Provide a child with 8 meals, snacks, juice or milk, and fresh produce for a weekend! Each bag is strategically packed with kid-approved, dietician-reviewed meals, and snacks. The bag is black so other children cannot see what is inside and it is placed in the child's backpack while they are out of the classroom. Many kids themselves do not realize they are on the Backpack Program, let alone their classmates.
